From the President...
A lot is happening in our church these days. The window that was broken last October has been replaced. The sidewalk to the patio has been temporarily fixed. The telephones have been replaced and in working order. Everyone is coming and doing what they can to clean the sanctuary and kitchen and take care of the grounds to keep everyone safe and our church home looking great. There still is a lot to do, so if you have some time, please contact me, Pastor, or any of the Council members to see where you can help.
We are beginning to plan for our 50th Anniversary of our congregation. Would you like to help plan? Please let me know. Events will span our anniversary year of November 2013 to November 2014. We will begin planning meetings soon.
I had the pleasure to represent All Saints at the Annual Chili Cook-Off held at Christ Lutheran Church in Pacific Beach on April 14, by making chili, and Gene Snooks made goodies for the Cookie Chill-Down. Gene received an award for his chocolate truffles. He is an exceptional person when it comes to making chocolate candies. Thank you, Gene, for making it a wonderful first experience for me with the Cook-Off!
A thought for the month is our mission. All Saints Lutheran Church is a Christian congregation sustained by the word of God and the Grace of Sacraments. It is the mission of All Saints to bring people into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through his church for the sake of their salvation and his work in the world. Thank you for upholding this mission as we gather together and keep our family strong.
As always in Christ,
Sandra Boelter

We Need Volunteers to Help with...
UC 4th of July Booth – Need help with set-up and break-down and hosting the booth. Sandra Boelter and Kate Walter are co-chairing this event. Contact either if you are able to assist.
Rummage Sale – The co-chairs who managed the event last year are willing to do it on a bi-annual basis. They are not able to do it this year. Consequently, we will not have a rummage sale this year unless we have volunteers willing to help chair and work the event. If you are interested, please contact Sandra Boelter as soon as possible. We only have the week between the end of preschool (June 7) and the beginning of the preschool summer session (June 18) to schedule the event. Planning Ad Hoc Group to help plan for 50th Anniversary events – Sandra Boelter will be scheduling planning meetings soon. Karen Whistler and Sandra Archer are willing to help. Anyone else? Walking the Labyrinth in Season
Every month of November begins with the All Saints remembrance of those who have gone before us in the faith. America's Day of Thanksgiving and the end of the Church Year bring to mind the image of the great harvest as God gathers his own. And the beginning of the Advent season reminds us of Christ's coming at the end of days to invite us to the great and promised feast.
As we walk the labyrinth this November, we are reminded of the words of Psalm 126, "Those who sowed with tears / will reap with songs of joy." Many of us know tears at this time of year (many of us, particularly, this year). As we walk the path inward toward the center of the labyrinth, we remember the presence of the One who said, "My yoke is easy and my burden is light." (St. Matthew 11:30) We give the weight of our grief to Christ. And then walking back out from the center, we recall the story of St. Christopher who, it is said, was carrying the Christ child through a river when he slowly realized that the child was carrying him. And we recall the times that we have been carried by Christ through waves that threatened to drown our faith. And the weight of grief begins to become the weight of glory. (II Corinthians 4:17) |
